Zoho Desk is the help desk in Zoho's business-software suite. It is sold per agent in four paid editions, and there is also a free tier. You get ticketing, a help center, a community forum, telephony and the Zia AI layer, with more than 360 integrations that include the rest of Zoho. The problem for a DTC team is where the edition lines fall. The knowledge base, signed-in chat and WhatsApp start at Standard. Phone and Zia start at Professional. Chat with shoppers who aren't logged in is listed only under Enterprise.

What it does

  • Tickets from email, web forms, and Instagram, Facebook and X (brand mentions and support tickets) on every paid edition, Express included
  • WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, WeChat and Line through the instant-messaging module, from Standard
  • From Standard: help center with knowledge base, community forum, CSAT ratings, custom reports and dashboards
  • From Professional: help center in 40+ languages. Enterprise only: help centers for more than one brand
  • Express includes workflows, rule-based direct assignment, multi-level escalations and a contact manager
  • Professional adds round-robin assignment, Blueprints (drag-and-drop step-by-step processes), multiple departments, parent-child tickets and webhooks
  • Enterprise adds skills-based assignment, custom modules and a sandbox
  • Telephony through third-party provider integrations from Professional; multi-level IVR at Enterprise
  • Missing: the pages we read never mention ecommerce order data or order actions (refund, cancel, edit address) inside the ticket. We did not check Shopify support either way, so look at Zoho's own Marketplace before you assume it matches an ecommerce-native desk

Pricing at a glance

  • Priced per user, per month. Our fetch showed only rupees, and only on the annual toggle
  • Express ₹420, billed annually
  • Standard ₹800, billed annually
  • Professional ₹1,400, billed annually
  • Enterprise ₹2,400, billed annually
  • USD and monthly rates: not captured. The page has a Monthly/Annual toggle and a USD option, but those figures did not appear in what we read. Check the page in your own currency before quoting a budget
  • The page says annual billing saves up to 34%. That means monthly can cost up to roughly half again the annual figure
  • Light agents (can view tickets and comment, no full support work): ₹345 per light agent per month on Professional and Enterprise. The page does not say whether that is billed monthly or annually. Enterprise includes 50 free
  • Seat cap: the pricing FAQ says Standard tops out at 5 users and higher plans are unlimited. It gives no cap for Express
  • Free edition: 3 users, email ticketing. Those 3 free seats do not carry over when you upgrade
  • 15-day free trial on any edition, no card needed. When it ends, the account drops to the free edition automatically
  • Bank transfer and cheque are accepted for annual plans only; otherwise Visa, MasterCard, Amex or PayPal
  • Local taxes are added on top

AI pricing (bring your own key)

  • No per-resolution or per-conversation price is published
  • AI agents are listed from Express. You bring your own key or use Zoho's LLM. Prebuilt agents are included, with up to 30M tokens a month free. The page does not say what happens past 30M
  • Generative features (sentiment analysis, conversation summaries, reply suggestions) need your own OpenAI API key, or DeepSeek in Zoho's China data center. OpenAI bills that usage, not Zoho, so it never shows up on the Zoho invoice
  • In practice the AI cost is split across two vendors and metered in tokens. That is harder to forecast and harder to cap than a per-resolution price
  • Answer Bot (answers from your knowledge-base articles) from Standard. Zia's analytic, predictive and generative features from Professional. Bot chat inside the ASAP widget at Enterprise
  • What it can't do: not verified. Nothing we read says the AI can change an order, issue a refund or write back to a store system

Before you commit

  • The knowledge base starts at Standard. On Express you cannot answer "where is my order" with an article
  • Standard's chat widget is described as being for signed-in customers. Live chat that engages site visitors is Zoho SalesIQ, listed under Enterprise. Most shoppers asking about sizing before they buy are not logged in
  • If the FAQ's 5-user cap on Standard holds, hiring a sixth agent moves you to Professional. That costs 1.75x the annual per-seat rate, on every seat
  • Running more than one storefront? Help centers for multiple brands are Enterprise only, at 3x Standard's annual per-seat rate
  • The sandbox is Enterprise only. On lower editions, workflow and Blueprint changes get tested on live tickets
  • The homepage advertises assignment by skills, workload and availability. The pricing table puts skills-based assignment at Enterprise
  • When the trial ends, the account drops to the free edition (3 users, email ticketing). Anything you set up on a higher edition during the trial depends on paying from day 16
  • Paid editions include "classic" support. 24-hour support, faster responses and dedicated onboarding are sold as a separate support plan
  • When listing where the OpenAI connection works, the pricing page names US, EU, India, Australia, Japan, Canada, China and UAE data centers, plus KSA hosting. We did not read a residency policy, an uptime commitment or any status history

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Who should buy

  • Teams already on Zoho CRM or other Zoho apps, where the integration is the reason to choose it
  • Email- and social-first teams that want structured process automation (Blueprints, parent-child tickets) and will pay for Professional to get it
  • Brands with customers in many languages: the help center supports 40+ languages from Professional
  • Teams that already have an OpenAI account and would rather pay for AI usage there

Who should skip it

  • DTC brands that need agents or AI to refund, cancel or edit orders from the ticket. We found no evidence of either
  • Shops that want live chat with anonymous visitors without paying for Enterprise
  • Teams of six or more who were budgeting for Standard
  • Anyone who wants AI costs on one invoice, at a price they can predict
  • Brands with several stores that aren't ready to pay Enterprise rates for a separate help center per brand

How we checked this

We read Zoho Desk's homepage and pricing page on 2026-10-05. Both came back in Spanish, and the pricing page showed INR on the annual toggle. We transcribed only the figures shown, translated edition names to Zoho's English names (Exprés to Express, and so on) and converted no currencies. USD and monthly figures need a human screenshot of both toggle states before we publish them. The free-edition card also shows "₹2600" next to "free forever". We could not tell what that figure refers to, so we left it out. zoho.com/pricing returned 403 to our fetch. Zoho's own pages disagree in two places, and we recorded both. The homepage claims 125,000+ businesses and the pricing page 100,000+. The homepage advertises skills-based assignment, which the pricing table puts at Enterprise only. We did not verify Shopify or other ecommerce integrations, what the AI can actually do, uptime, status history, security certifications, headquarters or founding year. No review-site text was used.
