Crisp Review
Shared inbox with live chat, ticketing and AI agents, on flat-rate plans.

Crisp started as a website chat widget and has grown a shared inbox, CRM, knowledge base and AI agent around it. It is built in Nantes and has taken no venture money. It charges a flat price per workspace with unlimited conversations, not a price per agent, so the bill is easy to forecast. The catches are a seat cliff, a contact cap and a one-account-per-channel rule, and none of them is on the plan cards.

What it does
- One inbox for the website chat widget, contact forms and email (shared email inbox from Mini)
- WhatsApp Business, Instagram DMs, SMS, Line and Viber come in with the omnichannel inbox on Essentials. The channel list also includes Messenger, Telegram, X DMs and phone
- Shopify, WooCommerce, Adobe Commerce and PrestaShop order and customer data sync into the conversation on every plan, Free included
- Built-in CRM with custom attributes, segments and a per-customer timeline
- Knowledge base, routing rules, a visual workflow builder and analytics from Essentials
- Round-robin assignment, canned responses, CSAT ratings, follow-up reminders and internal notes
- In the widget: co-browsing (MagicBrowse), LiveTranslate in 50+ languages, and audio and video messages
- Unlimited conversations on every plan, and unlimited data retention from Mini
- A customer portal (ticketing) and white label (removes "We run on Crisp") from Plus only
- Missing: nothing we read says an agent can refund, cancel or edit a Shopify order from the inbox. The integration is described only as syncing data. SSO and SAML are not mentioned on the pricing page

- Flat price per workspace, billed monthly, with unlimited conversations. Mini is $45 (4 seats), Essentials $95 (10 seats) and Plus $295 (20 seats, extra agents $10 a month each). A 2-seat Free plan exists. No yearly rate is published.
- AI credits of $5, $25 and $75 reset monthly. Crisp estimates Hugo costs $0.05 to $0.10 a conversation. Once the credits are spent, Hugo stops answering unless Pay-As-You-Go is switched on, and that rate isn't published.
- The 11th agent moves you from Essentials to Plus, $200 a month more, billed monthly. Worked costs and every add-on are on the Crisp pricing page.
AI pricing
- AI is metered in dollar credits, not in conversations: $5 on Mini, $25 on Essentials, $75 on Plus, and nothing on Free
- Crisp says each allowance covers "around" 90, 450 and 1,350 automated conversations, about 5.6 cents per conversation on every tier
- What you pay once the credits run out is not on the pricing page. Get it in writing before you switch on the AI agent for a sale weekend
- Crisp's pages disagree: the AI page says "All plans embed a fair use of AI" and "You'll not have to pay 1$ per resolved conversation", while the pricing page meters AI and gives Free no credits
- The AI agent trains on a crawl of your site, PDFs and help articles. It runs on web chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and email
- Agent-side tools on the list: copilot, reply drafting, summaries, auto-tagging, voice-to-text and an AI spam filter. The table's per-plan availability icons could not be read
- AI actions in third-party tools ("Task automations") are unlimited on Plus. The cards do not say what lower plans get
- What it can't do, as far as we could verify: change an order. The AI page mentions refunds only as something AI in general can do, not as a Crisp feature
- The AI Agent link in Crisp's navigation goes to a separate site, Hugo (hugo.ai). We did not read it, so we cannot say whether Hugo is billed apart from these credits
Before you commit
- Customer profiles are capped at 5,000 on Mini and 50,000 on Essentials. The FAQ lists "additional contacts" as a paid extra with no price. Watch how fast your store adds profiles during the trial
- Each workspace connects one Instagram, one Messenger, one WhatsApp Business, one Viber, one Line and one Telegram account (email excepted). More costs "higher limits" at an unpublished price, and a second brand usually means a second subscription
- The full integration catalogue ("100+ integrations") sits on the Plus card. Check that HubSpot, Slack, Salesforce or Zapier work on your tier before you rely on them
- Phone is in the channel list, but the plan it needs and any call charges are not stated
- Data is hosted in the EU: messaging servers in the Netherlands, plugin servers in Germany. No other region is mentioned
- The pages we read cover 2FA, a DPA, TLS, encrypted backups and GDPR. We found no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA statement and no SSO, so ask before procurement does
- A personalised SLA is listed only for Enterprise, and the pricing page gives no uptime figure
Who should buy it, and who should skip it
Who should buy
- Shopify, WooCommerce or PrestaShop stores where support starts in website chat and grows into WhatsApp and Instagram
- Teams of 5 to 10 agents, who get the omnichannel inbox, knowledge base and routing for $95 a month billed monthly
- EU brands that want EU-hosted data without paying for an enterprise plan
- Shops with seasonal spikes, since the price stays flat however many conversations come in (AI credits excepted)
Who should skip it
- Teams of 11 to 19 agents, who pay $295 a month for Plus whether or not they fill 20 seats
- Brands that want an agent or the AI to refund, cancel or edit Shopify orders inside the conversation
- Multi-brand operators running several Instagram or WhatsApp accounts from one inbox
- Buyers who need SSO, a SOC 2 report or HIPAA on paper before signing
- Email-ticket teams that want a customer portal but not a $295 monthly bill
How we checked this
We read prices, seat counts, profile caps and AI credits from the text of Crisp's own pricing page on 2026-10-06. The figures are in the page text. The page's FAQ says plans start on monthly billing and that yearly billing is switched on in the app, and since no yearly rate is published, every figure here is a monthly-billed rate. The comparison table marks plan availability with icons our text capture could not read. Per-plan gating therefore comes from the plan cards only, and we have asked for a screenshot of the table. Currency is shown as US dollars, and we did not check whether it changes by visitor location. The homepage, AI page, about page and security practices (updated May 3, 2026) were also read on 2026-10-06. We did not check the status page, the Hugo site or the help center, so uptime history, the price of AI after credits run out, phone charges and the price of extra contacts are not verified. Crisp's own pages disagree on trial length (14 days on the pricing page, "up to 30 days" on the AI page) and on whether AI is fair-use or metered, and we recorded both conflicts. We ignored the testimonials and third-party rating badges on Crisp's pages. No review-site text was used.
