Missive charges per active user per month, in US dollars, on three plans. The plan table above shows the yearly rates, which Missive advertises as 20% off the monthly rate; paying month to month costs $4 to $9 more per user, and Missive's own billing documentation lists those rates too. Headcount decides the bill for most teams, because each plan caps how many users it holds and the yearly contract has its own rules for adding and removing people.
How the billing works
- Every plan is billed per active user, per organization, in US dollars (Canadian customers included)
- Billed yearly: Starter $14, Productive $24, Business $36 per user a month
- Billed monthly: Starter $18, Productive $30, Business $45 per user a month, as listed in Missive's billing documentation
- Each plan has a user cap: Starter up to 5 users, Productive up to 50, Business unlimited
- No free plan. The 30-day trial runs on Productive with no card, and allows up to 25 users, 10 shared accounts and the last 30 days of history
- No discounts for nonprofits, schools or students
What each plan adds
- Starter: email, SMS and social accounts, team inboxes, conversations and tasks, SOC 2 Type II
- Productive: integrations, up to 1,000 rules, the AI assistant, basic analytics, and API and MCP access
- Business: SAML single sign-on, IP restrictions, advanced analytics (compare users and teams, filter) and personalized onboarding
- There is no native phone channel on any plan. The Aircall integration lets agents make and receive calls inside Missive, the Dialpad integration brings in texts and call logs, and integrations start on Productive
What the headline price leaves out
- Shared accounts. Each user adds 5 shared accounts to an organization-wide pool. Past the pool, Missive charges $15 a month for every 5 more, billed to the organization
- AI usage. The assistant needs Productive or Business, which start with a one-time $5 of free AI credits. After that you buy Missive credits, billed at the AI provider's price plus a 25% markup, or connect your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini key and pay the provider directly
- Missive publishes no per-reply or per-credit price, so AI spend depends on the model and the volume. At a $0 credit balance, AI stops until an admin tops it up
- SMS. Missive connects to your own provider (Twilio, SignalWire, Dialpad or Quo), and that provider's message fees are separate
- Sales tax is added for customers in New York, Ohio and Maryland
Which plan fits which team
- Starter suits a team of up to five that answers email, SMS and social and does not need order data in the inbox. Shopify order data comes through an integration, and integrations start on Productive
- Productive is where we would put most ecommerce teams of 6 to 50 people. The Shopify order panel (fulfillment, tracking, payment and refund status, read-only), routing rules and reporting all start here
- Business is for teams past 50 users, or any team whose IT department requires SAML single sign-on
- Headcount forces the upgrades. A sixth user moves a team off Starter: five users billed yearly cost $840 a year (5 × $14 × 12), six on Productive cost $1,728 (6 × $24 × 12)
- The 51st user moves the whole organization to Business. Fifty users on Productive cost $14,400 a year (50 × $24 × 12); 51 on Business cost $22,032 (51 × $36 × 12), an extra $7,632 for one seat
A worked example: eight agents
- An eight-person support team at a Shopify store needs Productive, since Starter stops at five users
- Billed yearly: 8 × $24 × 12 = $2,304 a year
- Billed monthly: 8 × $30 × 12 = $2,880 a year, which is $576 more for the right to cancel in any month
- Shared accounts: eight users bring a pool of 40. If each of a support address, a returns address, an SMS number, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger counts as one shared account, that uses six and leaves 34
- AI beyond the $5 starter credit costs whatever your chosen model costs, plus 25% if you buy it through Missive
- The same team on Business pays 8 × $36 × 12 = $3,456 a year, $1,152 more than Productive, mostly for single sign-on and the deeper reports
Yearly billing rules to read before you sign
- The yearly plan is a 12-month commitment and isn't refundable. Cancelling mid-year stops the renewal, and the plan runs to the end of the year you paid for
- Removing a user mid-year does not reduce the bill. The seat stays paid until renewal, though a new hire can take it over
- A user added mid-year is charged pro rata for the months left
- Upgrades take effect at once; downgrades wait for renewal
- Yearly plans renew automatically, and you cannot prepay more than 12 months
- Missive says it gives at least 30 days' notice of any price increase and generally does not raise prices on existing seats
- Our view: if your headcount swings with peak season, start monthly. Missive lets you switch to yearly later and get the yearly rate from that point, with no penalty for having started monthly. Going back from yearly to monthly means cancelling and resubscribing on the day the year ends, with no access in between if you miss it
