Zoho Desk is priced per user, per month, in five editions: a Free Edition for three users, then Express, Standard, Professional and Enterprise. Standard, at $14 a user a month billed annually, costs less than Freshdesk's Growth or Zendesk's Support Team, both $19 on annual billing. The bill grows in other places: which edition a feature sits on, user caps, light agents, extra departments and a paid support tier.
How the editions differ
- Free Edition: 3 users, email ticketing, free forever. Those 3 free seats are not carried over when you upgrade
- Express, $9 billed monthly or $7 billed annually: email, social (Instagram, Facebook, X), web forms, workflows, multi-level escalations and AI agents. No public knowledge base (agents get a private one). CSAT ratings on tickets (Zoho's comparison table lists them from Express; the pricing card shows them from Standard)
- Standard, $20 billed monthly or $14 billed annually: adds the public knowledge base, community forum, Answer Bot, custom reports, WhatsApp and the other instant-messaging channels (with CSAT ratings on those conversations), and Business Messaging chat. The pricing page describes that chat as for logged-in customers; the comparison table describes it as chat with customers on your website, one channel on Standard
- Professional, $35 billed monthly or $23 billed annually: adds telephony, Zia AI, Blueprints, 10 departments, round-robin assignment, parent-child tickets, webhooks, 10 Business Messaging channels and a help center in 40+ languages
- Enterprise, $50 billed monthly or $40 billed annually: adds live chat powered by Zoho SalesIQ inside the ASAP widget, skills-based assignment, multi-level IVR, a help center per brand, custom modules and 3 sandboxes. Zoho's pages disagree on whether chat with visitors who aren't signed in needs this plan, so ask before upgrading for that alone
- All figures are US dollars per user per month, with local taxes added on top
Annual billing
- Zoho says yearly billing saves "up to 34%". Only Professional reaches that: $35 down to $23
- The rest save less: Standard 30% ($20 to $14), Express 22% ($9 to $7), Enterprise 20% ($50 to $40)
- Bank transfer and check are accepted on yearly subscriptions only; cards and PayPal work on both
What the seat price leaves out
- Light agents, who can read tickets and comment but not reply to customers: $6 per light agent a month. The pricing FAQ offers them on Professional and Enterprise, the comparison table from Standard. Enterprise includes 50 free. The rate is $6 whether you pay monthly or annually
- Extra departments: Enterprise includes 50 and sells more at $7 a department a month billed monthly, or $6 billed annually, up to 450
- Support: paid editions get Classic support (email around the clock, phone 8 hours a day on weekdays, an 8-hour first response). Premium support costs 20% of your subscription fee. Enterprise support costs 25% of the annual subscription fee, with a minimum of 25 user licenses
- Phone: telephony runs through providers you connect, from Professional. The pricing page prices no numbers or minutes, so budget the provider's charges on their own line
- Generative AI on Express and Standard runs on your own OpenAI key (DeepSeek in Zoho's China data center), so OpenAI bills that usage, not Zoho. Professional and Enterprise add Zoho's native generative AI
- AI agents: the Express card says they come with access to pre-built agents and up to 30M free tokens a month, on Zoho's LLM or your own key. The comparison table lists pre-built AI agents under Enterprise only, in the US and India data centers. Get it in writing before counting on pre-built agents below Enterprise. Past the free 30M, Zoho's Zia Agents pricing lists $1.00 per million tokens on its Standard model tier. That page covers Zia Agents in general and doesn't name Zoho Desk
Where the user caps bite
- The comparison table caps Express at 5 users and lists Standard and above as unlimited
- The pricing FAQ puts the 5-user cap on Standard instead. Zoho's two pages disagree, so get the answer in writing before planning past 5 agents on Standard
- If the FAQ is right, a sixth agent moves the whole team to Professional: 5 seats at $14 = $70 a month becomes 6 seats at $23 = $138 a month on annual billing, nearly double for one hire
Which plan fits which team
- Express suits a team of up to 5 working email and social only, with no help center to run. We'd expect most ecommerce teams to outgrow it quickly, because order-status questions need a public knowledge base
- Standard is the cheapest plan with a public knowledge base and WhatsApp, and fits small teams once the 5-user question is settled
- Professional is where we would start most teams of 6 to 25. It is the first plan with phone, Zia's built-in AI, round-robin assignment and multiple departments
- Pay for Enterprise for a help center per brand, or for SalesIQ chat inside the ASAP widget. Zoho's pricing page describes Standard's chat as for logged-in customers, while its comparison table lists live chat on your website from Standard, so ask Zoho in writing before paying for Enterprise just for visitor chat. For 10 agents billed annually the step up costs $40 minus $23 = $17 a seat, or $170 a month more than Professional
Worked example: 8 agents on Professional, billed annually
- Seats: 8 seats at $23 = $184 a month, or $2,208 a year
- The same team billed monthly: 8 seats at $35 = $280 a month, or $3,360 a year. Annual billing saves $1,152
- Add 4 light agents for warehouse or finance staff who read tickets: 4 light agents at $6 = $24 a month, or $288 a year
- Add Premium support at 20% of the subscription fee: 20% of $2,208 = about $442 a year, counting the seats only
- Total: $2,208 + $288 + $442 = $2,938 a year, about $245 a month, before taxes, phone provider charges and any OpenAI usage
- The same 8 agents on Enterprise, for a help center per brand or SalesIQ chat in the ASAP widget: 8 seats at $40 = $320 a month, or $3,840 a year in seats. If visitor chat is the only reason, ask Zoho in writing whether Professional's website chat already covers it
Trial, refunds and discounts
- 15-day free trial of any edition, no credit card, and you can switch editions during it
- When the trial ends the account drops to the Free Edition automatically, so anything you configured on a paid edition needs a paid plan from day 16
- Zoho's FAQ says a customer who isn't satisfied can get a full refund under its refund policy
- Non-profits and educational institutions get special pricing, which Zoho does not publish
How we checked this
Plan names and prices come from Zoho Desk's rendered pricing page (https://www.zoho.com/desk/pricing.html), read in US dollars with both billing toggles on 2026-10-29, matching the tiers our pricing monitor verified on 2026-10-23. The plan cards, including the Express card's AI agents note and Standard's Business Messaging description, and the trial, payment, refund, discount, light-agent and Standard user-cap statements in the pricing FAQ come from that page, read the same day; the light-agent rate reads $6 under both toggles. User limits, light agents by edition, departments, knowledge bases, CSAT ratings, live chat and Business Messaging channels by edition, generative AI by edition and pre-built AI agents come from Zoho's edition comparison page (https://www.zoho.com/desk/pricing-comparison.html), and support plan costs from https://www.zoho.com/desk/support-plans.html, both read on 2026-10-29. The token rate past 30M comes from Zoho's Zia Agents platform details page (https://www.zoho.com/agents/resources/help/platform-reference/platform-details.html), read on 2026-10-29. The Freshdesk and Zendesk prices in the opening are the annual-billing rates on file from their own pricing pages (https://www.freshworks.com/freshdesk/pricing/ and https://www.zendesk.com/pricing/), verified by our pricing monitor on 2026-10-23 (Freshdesk) and 2026-10-29 (Zendesk). Where Zoho's pages disagree we report both. A plain text fetch of the pricing page from some regions shows rupees; we converted no currency.
