Our verdict

Gmelius is a shared inbox that lives inside Gmail, and it competes directly with Hiver for the same Google Workspace team. The difference is where it starts: the cheapest plan is an AI assistant for one person, not a help desk, so the real entry point for a support team is the second tier at $25 a seat. Worth a look if your team is small, already in Gmail, and wants automation more than channels.

Gmelius turns Gmail into a shared inbox without asking anyone to leave Gmail. It is the closest competitor to Hiver in this directory, aimed at the same Google Workspace team, and the choice between them comes down to whether you want channels or automation.

What it does

  • Shared inboxes and shared labels inside Gmail
  • Automation rules and auto-assignment of conversations
  • Shared email templates, SLAs and email analytics
  • Most integrations plus API access
  • Missing: this is email-first. It is not an omnichannel desk

Read the plan ladder carefully

The cheapest plan, Meli at $19 a user a month, is an AI personal assistant, not a help desk. It drafts replies, sorts mail, schedules meetings and chases follow-ups for one person. Useful, but it has no shared inbox and no team collaboration.

The real starting point for a support team is Growth at $25, which is where shared inboxes, automation and SLAs appear.

Pricing at a glance

  • Per user, per month. Meli $21, Growth $33, Pro $50 billed monthly
  • Billed annually: $19, $25 and $40
  • Both figures are printed side by side, no toggle to misread
  • 7-day free trial. Meli and Growth start without a sales call; the Pro trial is request-only
  • No free plan

Before you commit

  • Confirm you are comparing Growth rather than Meli when you put this next to another desk
  • Pro buys higher usage caps on the automation rather than new capabilities, so work out whether you will hit the Growth caps first
  • If your team is not on Google Workspace, none of this applies

Who should buy

  • Small Google Workspace teams who want a shared inbox with real automation
  • Operations where the volume is email and the problem is routing, not channel coverage
  • Teams who want API access without paying an enterprise tier for it

Who should skip it

  • Anyone needing chat, social or voice in the same tool
  • Teams not on Gmail
  • Buyers wanting a free tier to start on

How we checked this

Plan names, both billing bases, what each tier includes and the trial terms were read from Gmelius's own pricing page on 2026-09-25, which prints the monthly and annual figures together. The distinction between Meli and the team plans is Gmelius's own description on that page. No review-site text was used.

Strengths

  • Runs inside Gmail, so a Google Workspace team keeps the tool it already uses.
  • Both billing bases are printed together on every plan, with nothing to misread.
  • Shared inboxes, automation rules, auto-assignment, SLAs and email analytics all arrive at the $25 tier.
  • API access is included from that same tier rather than held back for enterprise.
  • A 7-day free trial that starts without a sales call on the lower plans.

Trade-offs

  • The cheapest plan is a personal AI assistant, not a team help desk. The real starting point is $25 a seat.
  • Email-centric: this is a shared inbox, not an omnichannel desk.
  • The Pro trial is request-only rather than self-serve.
  • Nothing here works if your team is not on Gmail or Google Workspace.
  • No free plan.
